nickel diner

after a trojan victory on saturday, den and i were pretty wiped out. the place still reeked of beer and dirty dishes in the sink, so breakfast on sunday morning had to be off-site.

nickel diner was the choice. Den heard that they have donuts with bacon. and I love me some bacon. there's this other place in portland, oregon called voodoo donuts that have maple bars with bacon. we saw it on the travel channel. we actually even thought about getting married there, since they do have a wedding package. but i digress...i was just hoping nickel diner would have something like it.

they kinda do. but smaller and part of a complimentary sampler trio that a nice lady gave to us at the end of our meal. it was a glazed donut hole sprinkled with bacon bits. i think i expected too much. but for what it was, it had a really good bacon smell. i really just wished there was a whole piece of bacon wrapped around that bad boy.

but besides that, the rest of our breakfast was satisfying. i had the "scramble" with bacon, spinach and goat cheese (i just realized i really like goat cheese). den had pancakes with sausages. the lady who served us had the rosie the riveter look, which i thought was cute. the place really did look retro without trying to hard. probably helped that it was in an old building in the historic district.
